The unique name Bunmi Koko means God gave me my other half. Bunmi in youruba means God gave me and Koko in Calabar means my other half a pet name given to Bunmi by partner Francis.
Bunmi Olaye is the Creative Director behind this luxurious brand. Nigerian born Bunmi studied in the UK at the Wimbledon School of Art where she gained a National Diploma in Art & Design and Kent Institute of Art & Design.After studying she worked for various luxury brands such as Harrods, Alexander McQueen and Prada. She went back to school to enhance her skills at the prestigious London College of Fashion and the University of East London. Her education became richer with a degree in Fashion design and marketing at University of East London.
Bunmi and Francis' creative and engineering skills have made Bunmi Koko well known for its innovative fabrics, elegant design and meticulous finish. The brand focuses on luxury ready-to-wear, bridal and evening wear. The brand's portfolio of luxury products and services is growing into accessories for womenswear, menswear, special designs as well as interior design.
Bunmi Koko's roles continue to expand to include creating custom made designs for its clients. The clientele has become even bigger with notable famous people, Hollywood stars and music artists wearing her designs in public; some of which include Nelson Mandela, Mel B of the former Spice Girls, Kelly Rowland of Destiny Child and Michelle Obama. Bunmi Koko was one of the selected designers asked to design Kate Middleton's wedding dress; and one of the designers invited by UK's ITV Royal Wedding Converage to comment on the Duchness of Cambridge wedding dress.
In just a few years Bunmi Koko has stormed the fashion world and has won a number of awards. Some of which include The Precious Award for the Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010, The Fashions Finest Awards for the Emerging Designer of the Year 2011 and Africa Fashion Week Award for International Emerging Designer of the Year 2010 - which led to a personal invitation from Nelson Mandela.
